Resumo:
This work is part of the Integrated Program of Support to Teaching, Research and Extension (PROINT 2008/2009), School of Oceanography (UFPA). The island of Colares is located in northeast Pará and bathed by the Pará river estuary this are few and physical oceanographic, justifying the present study, which presented to characterize the hydrodynamic and hydrological processes of the lower estuary of the Para River during dry period . The field work was conducted on 17 and 18/12/09, during the dry season the river Para, with spring tide of new moon, with the help of a catamaran, a sounder Conductivity- Temperature-and-Depth (CTD), an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), a digital anemometer. Weather presented outside the normal weather, with high levels of sunshine and very low rainfall, may be consequences of El Niño, the system of currents of the estuary showed variations of intensity and direction related mainly to changes in tide and morphology channel, determining the vector of flow velocity in the estuarine system showed an alternative character and axial currents in the ebb and flow. The average speed in the water column obtained values up to 1.15 m/s and minimum of 0.04 m/s. The current speed of the surface was more intense than the background, the surface speed was 1.7 m/s (ebb) and a low of 0.3 m/s (flood), and the background speed was 1.0 m/s (ebb) and a low of 0.3 m/s (flood). The results of the wind to 6m of water depth, showed many fluctuations, with hours of great gusts, reaching 13m/s, and other of calm with speed very close to 0 m/s, and were more intense during the day with 32 °C. The tide on the island of Colares prese nted maximum amplitude of 3 m, 0.36 m higher amplitude compared with the Isle of Mosqueiro, and an advance of 47 minutes. This way, you can sort the estuary of the Para river as hiposíncrono. The water temperature in the estuary didn’t vary more than 0.8°C over time, and 0.5°C throughout the water column in the same profile, with a maximum of 28.9 °C and a minimum of 28.1 °C (both i n ebb). The salinity in the estuary is strongly influenced by the tide, being somewhat peculiar, with higher values and stratification in the water column in the early hours of ebb. The estuarine system assumes the characteristics of type 1 well-mixed.
