In the last decades the pollution of water bodies due to the liquid effluent discharge has become a constant concern for the industrial segment. We conducted a case study in a processing industry of agricultural substrate, in February and April 2016, in order to evaluate the efficiency of the industrial effluent treatment in a factory, placed in the Metropolitan Area of Belém-Pa, trying to characterize the unit operations deployed in Industrial Effluent Treatment Station (ETEI). So there were technical visits to identify the generating points of industrial effluent, to know the treatment process and to conduct laboratory tests to distinguish the effluent generated. The obtained results in the characterization of physical, chemical and microbiological effluent were compared with the maximum values for industrial effluents disposal allowed by CONAMA Resolution 430/2011, and the obtained results with samples of the receptor water body were compared with the definitions by CONAMA Resolution 357/2005, which provides for the classification of water bodies and environmental guidelines for its legal framework. Therefore it allows confirming that the treatment system adopted by the company, in study, follows the current legislation, concerned with the conservation of water resources and environmental protection.
