The motor coordination is the harmonious and economic interaction of the musculoskeletal,
nervous and sensory systems in order to produce motor, precise and balanced actions; rapid
reactions that require an adequate measure of force that determines the amplitude and speed of
movement; an adequate selection of the muscles that influence the conduction and orientation
of the movement; the ability to quickly change between tension and muscle relaxation. Baseball
is a collective sport originated in the USA, currently in Brazil is practiced mostly by Japanese
descendants in the northeast region of Pará where the practice involves people of all ages The
objective of this paper was to analyze if the baseball practice interferes in the motor
coordination in children. The sample was consisted of 13 males with an age between 5 and 13
years and 11 months. The motor coordination was assessed using the KTK battery
(Körperkoordinations für Kinder Test ) developed by Kiphard and Schilling (1974). In general,
we achieved values similar to the values observed in studies of other modality. In conclusion,
we could observe that baseball practice for school-age children improves their motor
coordination. |
