Resumo:
This work investigates and analyzes the preservationist practices of residents of the Village of Joanes, Marajó Island, Brazil. The Village of Joanes, located in the eastern portion of the island, has about 2000 inhabitants and is a district of Salvaterra. The Site of Joanes (PA-JO-46) makes up the cultural landscape of this small community. The site consists of the ruins of Nossa Senhora do Rosário Church, as well as fragments of metal, tableware, bones and pottery that indicate pre-colonial occupation in the locality, which occurred before the establishment of the religious mission of Joanes. Through contact with the Village and its residents, it was possible to observe, research and analyze the preservationist practices in the field of museological theory. Thus, it was possible to think through the relations between residents and local archeological heritage as well as the absence of a partnership between communities and institutions responsible for the preservation of the archaeological patrimony.
