Resumo:
This work seeks to discuss alternative and significant Environmental Education (EE) practices, based on the interrelation with cultural themes, in the Lower Secondary School of a public school in the municipality of Ananindeua-PA. The proposal of cultural approach of EA sought to contemplate a ethnic-racial discussion linked to the celebrations of the "Black Consciousness Day", with emphasis on the relationship between the need for learning about environmental preservation and the Yoruba Afro-Brazilian mythology, characterized in the Orixás figure. The development of this activity, however, triggered situations of cultural intolerance, which elucidated some important limits that Brazilian public education must face in order to consolidate Social Democracy, as well as demonstrating the considerable challenges of teaching / learning of EE, based on children's reality and culture present in the basic formation of the Brazilian public school.
