Resumo:
Occupational stress occurs in several professions, however it is a striking feature of who works on the mass transit system, for example, bus drivers and ticket collectors. This paper investigated the main causes of occupational stress of those workers on the bus routes serving the Federal University of Pará’s bus terminal. In order to do so, 35 bus ticket collectors and 34 bus drivers were interviewed, the factors used in the questionnaire were determined based on the literature. The answers were noted and tabulated, firstly, in a grouped way, and then separately – bus drivers responses and ticket collectors responses – choosing Student’s t-test to compare averages. The main factors that triggered occupational stress, identified in the group analysis – were heat (4,8 average), risk of assault (4,7 average), traffic jam / rush hours (4,4 average) and unorganized traffic (4,3 average). The least factors that triggered occupational stress were malaise (2,2 average) and interval absence between consecutive bus rides (2,3 average). In the fragmented analysis, only 4 factors had significantly different responses when comparing bus drivers and ticket collectors. The factors “disrespect of users” and “risk of assault” were more stressful for tickets collectors and the factors “back pain” and “hearing problem” were more stressful for bus drivers.
