The domain of the Portuguese Language in Brazil, by high school students, it’s a problem, notably when they need to do the essay necessary to entering higher education, or to get a public office by contest. The difficulty to produce texts becomes a hindrance, already that they will need of this knowledge in the future as citizens, as professionals. It is observed that, one of the main challenges for these students it’s just the argumentative construction of their texts, when they need to use two elements in the content: the cohesion and the coherence. To exist cohesion and coherence in the texts, it’s necessary to apply properly the connectives, items that serve to give sense for all the argumentation expose in the written production. The goal of this search was reflect about the argumentative construction in texts written by students of 3rd years high school, in a public school of Castanhal/PA city. To reach this objective we’d perform a qualitative interpretive search, of an applied nature. We did use how to theoretical support authors as Val (2006), Koch (1992; 1995; 2005), Travaglia (1990) and Geraldi (1997). Therefore, we held a class about “textual connectives” for the high school students from that public school, and there was a “textual production”, in the which they had to produce an opinion article, about cellphone uses at the classroom, in order to verify if they knew how to use the conjunctions correctly. We chose seven texts for a general analysis, and three texts for a detailed analysis. The analysis of the results showed that: the students surveyed have an opinion about the topic, but they have difficulties with textual argumentative construction, because they don’t know how to use the cohesion and coherence elements correctly – the conjunctions. Therefore, we consider that is low the domain of the written by the students of 3rd years of high school.
