Resumo:
Although the advantages of breastfeeding and the benefits of breastmilk are now increasingly clearly presented by the scientific community, the problems that the mother faces during breastfeeding may lead to early weaning. This study aims to describe the main difficulties encountered by primiparous women facing the breastfeeding process. This is a descriptive, prospective and qualitative study, conducted at the Sacramenta Basic Health Unit, in July and August 2019. With the participation of puerperal women, primiparous, regardless of whether they exclusively or not breastfeed, contraindications in breastfeeding, accompanied by their newborn, newborn, full-term, without malformations and who agreed to participate in the research. The main difficulties related to breastfeeding pointed out in this study were: Nipple cleft, little milk and poor grip. All problems presented by the nursing mother are related to breastfeeding technique and maternal positioning to breastfeed. The aid to the primiparous postpartum woman in the breastfeeding process can prevent breast complications, as well as help to resolve them when they are already installed.
