Research support the theoretical concept of Bourdieu, like the role a family plays in the development of readers reading habits. The exploration of research approaches this qualitatively, this means that the realization of the work was done through bibliographic research, drawing up a questionnaire of the theme, the author used are Bamberger, Sandrone and Machado, Paulo Freire, Ezequiel, Silva, Lajolo, and Zilberman. This in the uplifting of the formula and direction of the parents or the responsibilities of the students from two schools,one from the public network and another from the private network, the aim is to know the family reading environment,seated or not at a propitious place. Makes comparingbetween the ways of the two schools, also research elements that indicate the research pictures of reading in Brazil,from IBGE, IDEB and IDH. In conclusion the family role is to encourage reading and contribute to the development of the reader through reading habits and parties at home. Trata da contribuição da família na formação do leitor através de hábitos de leitura no lar, aborda também a questão da leitura como a sua importância. Busca apoio teórico no conceito de habitusde Bourdieu, com o objetivo deconhecer a influência da família no incentivo a leitura para a formação do leitor. Trata-se de pesquisa exploratória com abordagem qualitativa. Para a realização deste trabalho foram feitas pesquisas bibliográficas, de forma a concretizar a questão do tema, utilizando autores como Bamberger, Sandrone e Machado, Paulo Freire, Ezequiel Silva, Lajolo, e Zilberman.Realiza o levantamento de dados primários por meio de formulário, direcionados aos pais ou responsáveis de alunos de duas escolas,uma da rede pública e a outra da rede privada, visando conhecer o ambiente de leitura familiar, sendo este ou não um local propicio de incentivo. Faz comparação entre os dados das duas escolas, buscando elementos também em índices da Pesquisa Retratos da Leitura no Brasil, do IBGE, do IDEB e do IDH.
