Resumo:
The advance of knowledge production causes an increasing demand for scientific communication. This article is based on the hypothesis that the transformations observed in the scientific field (BOURDIEU, 2004) were determinant for the establishment of different science communication models - deficit, contextual, lay expertise and public participation - according to the definitions of Bruce Lewenstein (2003) and Graça Caldas (2010). The bibliographic review developed in this work shows that such models indicate the understanding of communication, either unidirectionally or dialogically. However, it is found predominantly, an instrumental and verticalized perspective of communication that serves a strategy of domination by the scientific field. In view of the historical particularities of the Amazon region, which is peripheral in the global capitalist system, it is argued that the public communication of science in the Amazon, besides adopting a critical atitude towards the social, political and economic implications of the process of coloniality of scientific knowledge in the region, must be commited to an alternative model of development and with a dialogial and democratic perspective that respects the ethnic, cultural and social diversity of the people that composse it and values local knowledges.
