This research is of a qualitative nature, supported by bibliographic support. In the ethnographic study of this culture have been identified the presence of elements characteristic of geometry, as well as the know-how of the naval carpenters is related to the mathematics learned in school environment, however, during the visit to the shipyards it was verified that the knowledge used in carpentry naval come from Ethnomathematics, since they are generated and disseminated in the own culture, being perfected in the daily practice this craft and passed to the later generations. This study also aims at valuing the knowledge of other cultures based on Ethnomathematics and emphasizes the search for new discoveries for the teaching of Mathematics and emphasizes non-isolation this science with other areas of knowledge, but rather, allow mathematical communication with others sciences in an interdisciplinary way in search for new perspectives in the teaching of this one. Este estudo versa a Etnomatemática como instrumento cultural na prática da carpintaria naval no município de Marapanim/PA, local da investigação e, teve por objetivo geral: estudar a origem dos saberes matemáticos aplicados pelos carpinteiros navais na construção artesanal de embarcações e, identificar elementos da Matemática, especialmente da geometria, compostos na estrutura das embarcações e, apresentar a forma que esses elementos podem auxiliar no ensino de geometria. Esta pesquisa é de natureza qualitativa, alicerçada em suporte bibliográfico. No estudo etnográfico da cultura da carpintaria naval, foi identificado a presença de elementos característicos da geometria nas estruturas das embarcações e, aproximação do saber fazer matemático que possuem os carpinteiros navais com a Matemática aprendida em ambiente escolar. Todavia, durante a visita aos estaleiros, constatou-se que os saberes matemáticos utilizados no ofício da carpintaria naval são oriundos das práticas culturais que produzem, isto é, etnomatemáticos, gerados e difundidos na própria cultura, sendo aperfeiçoados no exercício diário da carpintaria naval e; e por meio da convivência em grupo familiar, passam esses saberes para as gerações posteriores.
