Addresses monument as historical information source origination from concepts originated from Information Science. The paper’s general objective is to ponder about the need to know, appreciate and preserve the historical monuments of Belém/PA. As specifics objectives, show the value of historical heritage e it’s preservation; identify the historical monuments of Belem’s city as information source. As the nature and following the objectives proposed, this paper’s shape corresponds to exploratory and the operating address method was the monographic. The literature review was made by a book research, journals, scientific papers and newspapers published about the theme. Throug the research it was concluded that, as result of historical facts showed in this monograph, such as Colonial Age, the Belem’s foundation, the Belle Époque, characters famous by their heroic acts, reaching present-day, the intended effect was the perpetuation of memory using these monuments representing historical facts and important names of that age, such as the wish of fill the city’s empty space with equipment that could bring healthiness and beauty to the public space. By this way, it’s understood that the Belém’s historical monuments are valorous source of information as heritage left by past generations, bringing to memory moments that contributed to the city’s and country’s development, forming the cultural identity of local people e a human development’s promotion the a respect and appreciation of historical heritage.
