The paper’s general objective is to ponder about the need to know, appreciate and preserve the historical monuments of Belém/PA. As specifics objectives, show the value of historical heritage e it’s preservation; identify the historical monuments of Belem’s city as information source. As the nature and following the objectives proposed, this paper’s shape corresponds to exploratory and the operating address method was the monographic. The literature review was made by a book research, journals, scientific papers and newspapers published about the theme. Throug the research it was concluded that, as result of historical facts showed in this monograph, such as Colonial Age, the Belem’s foundation, the Belle Époque, characters famous by their heroic acts, reaching present-day, the intended effect was the perpetuation of memory using these monuments representing historical facts and important names of that age, such as the wish of fill the city’s empty space with equipment that could bring healthiness and beauty to the public space. By this way, it’s understood that the Belém’s historical monuments are valorous source of information as heritage left by past generations, bringing to memory moments that contributed to the city’s and country’s development, forming the cultural identity of local people e a human development’s promotion the a respect and appreciation of historical heritage. Aborda o monumento como fonte de informação histórica proveniente de conceitos oriundos da Ciência da Informação. O trabalho tem como objetivo geral refletir acerca da necessidade de conhecimento, valorização e preservação dos monumentos históricos na cidade de Belém/PA. Como objetivos específicos: mostrar a importância do patrimônio histórico e a sua preservação; identificar os monumentos históricos da cidade de Belém como fonte de informação. Quanto à natureza e de acordo com os objetivos propostos, o caráter deste trabalho corresponde ao exploratório e o método operacional de abordagem utilizado foi o monográfico. Para a revisão de literatura, realizou-se a pesquisa em livros, periódicos, artigos científicos e jornais já publicados abordando a temática. Mediante a pesquisa realizada, verificou-se que em virtude dos acontecimentos mencionados nesta monografia, como o período colonial, a formação de Belém, a Belle Époque, figuras renomadas por seus feitos heroicos, perpassando até os dias atuais, o efeito que se pretendia era a perpetuação da memória por meio destes monumentos representando fatos históricos e nomes importantes da época, bem como o desejo de preencher espaços vazios da cidade com equipamentos que pudessem proporcionar salubridade e beleza ao espaço público.
