Resumo:
With the objective to know the effectiveness, safety and side effects of the radioiodine therapy in the management of the liyperthyroidism, 31 records of patients submitted to this therapeutic modality had been revised, in the Maymone Clinic, from the period of April 1998 to February 1999. They had been evaluated in accordance with: the therapy used previously to iodine, development of the hypothyroidism and adverse reactions 6 months after the dose. In accordance with the collected data, it was evidenced that 64,52% of the patients had developed the hypothyroidism, 93,55% had reached the cure, and no patient presented other adverse reactions besides the hypothyroidism. According to the results presented, it was concluded that the radioactive iodine (¹³¹I) is a simple, efficient and safe method in the handling of the hypothyroidism.
