They had been evaluated in accordance with: the therapy used previously to iodine, development of the hypothyroidism and adverse reactions 6 months after the dose. In accordance with the collected data, it was evidenced that 64,52% of the patients had developed the hypothyroidism, 93,55% had reached the cure, and no patient presented other adverse reactions besides the hypothyroidism. According to the results presented, it was concluded that the radioactive iodine (¹³¹I) is a simple, efficient and safe method in the handling of the hypothyroidism. Com o objetivo de conhecer a eficácia, segurança e efeitos colaterais da terapia com iodo radioativo no tratamento de hipertireoidismo, foram revisados 31 prontuários de pacientes que submeteram a esta modalidade terapêutica, na clínica Maymone, no período de abril de 1998 a fevereiro de 1999. Foram avaliados de acordo com: a terapia utilizada anteriormente ao iodo, desenvolvimento hipotireoidismo e reações adversas 6 meses após a dose. De acordo com os dados obtidos, constatou-se que 64,52% dos pacientes desenvolveram o hipotireoidismo, 93,55% alcançaram a cura e nenhum paciente apresentou outras reações adversas além do hipotireoidismo.
