The research subjects are students of the eighth grade of elementary school. Its general objective is to analyze possible contributions to learning about the study of plane geometry from problem solving. For this purpose it appropriates the following specific objectives: discuss the concepts of perimeter, area measures of length; identify evidence of understanding of concepts presented from the developed practice; Conduct feedback to identify learning evidence from students' statements. It was possible to realize the relevance of the study of geometry from problem solving to the development of the student's deductive reasoning, since it develops the investigative capacity, allows the student to feel able to do and speak using concepts of mathematics. Studies also point out that it is essential that teachers make reflections and adopt an exploratory posture during their classes, redirecting some activities, diversifying their teaching methodologies, detaching themselves from conventional classes. Equally, the teacher must propose new teaching strategies in order to bring the scientific content closer to the student's daily life, and allow him to associate what he has learned with routine situations in his life outside school. O trabalho foi desenvolvido numa abordagem qualitativa em torno de uma prática realizada com alunos do oitavo ano do Ensino Fundamental, objetivou analisar possíveis contribuições para aprendizagem sobre o estudo de geometria plana a partir de resolução de problema (resumo e introdução) e especificamente: “discutir os conceitos de perímetro, área medidas de comprimento; identificar indícios de compreensão de conceitos apresentados a partir da prática desenvolvida; realizar um feedback para identificar indícios de aprendizagem a partir das falas dos alunos”. Foi possível perceber a relevância do estudo da Geometria a partir da resolução de problemas para o desenvolvimento do raciocínio dedutivo do aluno, uma vez que ela desenvolve a capacidade investigativa, permite que o aluno sinta-se capaz de fazer e falar utilizando conceitos da matemática. Os estudos apontam também que, é fundamental que o professor faça reflexões e adote uma postura exploratória durante suas aulas, redirecionando algumas atividades, diversificando suas metodologias de ensino, desvinculando-se das aulas convencionais.
