This study evaluated the potential of APA Ilha do Combú as a non-formal space for teaching and learning Environmental and Botany Education, to reinforce reflection on the environment and its preservation, as well as considering the important role of plants in the most varied activities of a community. For this, the knowledge of the population that frequents Ilha do Combú was surveyed through questionnaires carried out at Praça Princesa Isabel, the departure point for the space, in line with the bibliographic survey. We conclude that the visiting population has little knowledge about plant biodiversity, the importance of plants for the community and information about the importance of protecting the island. Therefore, we verified the need to implement projects aimed at the environmental education of this population, which can be done by linking the teaching of botany, as it is an extremely effective tool in terms of raising awareness and raising awareness in society regarding the preservation of natural resources. A Área de Preservação Ilha do Combú localizada na região metropolitana de Belém do Pará, apresenta uma grande riqueza vegetal e atrai pessoas de diferentes estados do Brasil por meio do turismo. O presente estudo avaliou o potencial da APA Ilha do Combú como espaço não-formal para o ensino-aprendizagem da Educação Ambiental e Botânica, como forma de reforçar a reflexão sobre o meio ambiente e sua preservação, assim como, considerando o importante papel das plantas nas mais variadas atividades de uma comunidade. Para isso, foi feito o levantamento do conhecimento da população frequentadora da Ilha do Combú por meio de questionários realizados na Praça Princesa Isabel, ponto de embarque para o espaço, em consonância com o levantamento bibliográfico. Concluímos que a população frequentadora detém pouco conhecimento acerca da biodiversidade vegetal, a importância das plantas para a comunidade e informações sobre a importância da proteção da Ilha.
