Around 50% of the patients who search for gastroenterologic care suffer from
functional problems. Among these, the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is the most frequent. The present research proposes to do an epidemiologic study in the population of the macro area from Belém –Pará - Brazil about the prevalence of IBS, with the aim to collaborate with the delimitation of a IBS profile in Brazil. 1067 habitants were select, without restrictions about age or gender, to the IBS screening. From the found prevalence about the IBS (130 patients) has been generated a control group (n=130) with similar characteristics of age and gender from the sick group, but without compatible complaints of IBS. Were found a prevalence of 12.18% from IBS in the macro area of Belém population and were also delimitate the following IBS epidemiologic profile: female predominance, significant prevalence of bloating, frequent abdominal pain, and also the following co-morbidities: gastro-esophagic symptoms (heartburn, burning, overfeeding, poor digestion, regurgitation and the feeling of mouth bitter), decreased appetite, cardiologic symptoms (arrhythmia, precordial pain), respiratory symptoms (asthma), fatigue, headache, back pain, tortichollis, night choking, pharyngitis, hoarseness and anxiety. |
