Among these, the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is the most frequent. The present research proposes to do an epidemiologic study in the population of the macro area from Belém –Pará - Brazil about the prevalence of IBS, with the aim to collaborate with the delimitation of a IBS profile in Brazil. 1067 habitants were select, without restrictions about age or gender, to the IBS screening. From the found prevalence about the IBS (130 patients) has been generated a control group (n=130) with similar characteristics of age and gender from the sick group, but without compatible complaints of IBS. Were found a prevalence of 12.18% from IBS in the macro area of Belém population and were also delimitate the following IBS epidemiologic profile: female predominance, significant prevalence of bloating, frequent abdominal pain, and also the following co-morbidities: gastro-esophagic symptoms (heartburn, burning, overfeeding, poor digestion, regurgitation and the feeling of mouth bitter), decreased appetite, cardiologic symptoms (arrhythmia, precordial pain), respiratory symptoms (asthma), fatigue, headache, back pain, tortichollis, night choking, pharyngitis, hoarseness and anxiety. Cerca de 50% dos pacientes que procuram atendimento gastroenterológico sofrem de problemas funcionais. Dentre estas, a síndrome do intestino irritável (SII) é a mais freqüente. O presente trabalho se propõe a fazer estudo epidemiológico na população da macrorregião de Belém a respeito da prevalência da SII, visando colaborar com o traçado do perfil dos portadores dessa síndrome no país. Foram selecionados 1067 habitantes sem restrições com relação à idade e ao sexo para a triagem da SII. A partir da prevalência encontrada de entrevistados com a SII (130 pacientes) foi gerado um grupo controle (n=130) com características idênticas ao grupo doente com relação à idade e ao sexo, porém sem queixas compatíveis com a SII. Os autores encontraram uma prevalência de 12,18% da SII na população da macrorregião de Belém e traçaram o seguinte perfil epidemiológico da síndrome: predomínio do sexo feminino, prevalência significativa de distensão abdominal, dor abdominal com freqüência, além das seguintes co-morbidades: sintomas gastro-esofágicos (azia, queimação, empachamento, má digestão, regurgitação e sensação de boca amarga), diminuição do apetite, sintomas cardíacos (arritmia e dor precordial), sintomas respiratórios (asma), fadiga, cefaléia, dores nas costas, torcicolo, engasgos noturnos, faringite, rouquidão e ansiedade. 2023-01-13T18:16:44Z 2023-01-13T18:16:44Z 2008 Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso - Graduação SOARES, Ana Caroline Nunes; MATOS, Bruno Oliveira de; ROCHA, Rodrigo Ferreira da.
