Resumo:
In 1983, the HIV virus was identified, its replication in the human body leads to a decline in the immune system. With the advent of antiretroviral drugs, there was an increase in the life expectancy of HIV carriers. The prevalence of metabolic disorders and opportunistic infections highlighted the importance of investigating these associations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nutritional guidance on body composition in people living with AIDS. An intervention study was carried out in a university hospital in the city of Belém-PA with 25 people living with AIDS using ART. The work was submitted and approved by the human research ethics committee. The research took place in two phases: Phase 1 (T0): socio-demographic surveys, assessment of body composition, Nutritional intervention where patients received nutritional guidance based on the guidelines of the Food Guide for the Brazilian Population and Phase 2 (T3): Reassessment 90 days after the intervention, with a new diagnosis of body composition according to Phase 1 (T0). The results did not show significant influences of nutritional guidance on the body composition variable, before and after the intervention. The low change in body composition in both genders may be related to the short intervention period, short time to metabolize nutrients, lack of specific nutrient supplementation for PLWHA, side effects of ART, little physical activity and socioeconomic factors. It is important to include more protocols integrated into the research in future studies, to eventually obtain greater interventions in the variables.
