Resumo:
Cardiovascular diseases are a group of diseases characterized by changes in the functioning of the cardiac system, and are considered the main cause of death in Brazil. As age advances, the incidence of risk factors for these diseases increases. Other factors that also influence are: inadequate diet, physical inactivity, smoking and alcohol consumption. Therefore, the Brazilian Cardioprotective Food, also known as DICA Br (Brazilian Cardioprotective Diet), was created, which contains foods capable of preventing and altering the severity of these diseases. This study aims to assess the level of knowledge about cardioprotective nutrition of a group of elderly people in a Municipal Health Unit in Belém / Pará. This is a study of a longitudinal character and quantitative nature, in virtual format through the WhatsApp application, with educational intervention, carried out with a group of elderly enrolled in the Municipal Health Unit of Guamá de Belém / Pará. A protocol with sociodemographic and economic variables was applied. The questions related to food were applied in the pre and postintervention phase, to assess the impact of Food Education and Nutritional interventions on the level of knowledge about the cardioprotective diet. The research consisted of 17 elderly women, with an average age of 69.4 ± 7.0 years. The percentage of correct answers in the pre intervention phase showed an average of 67.23%, showing the need to pay attention to the diet performed, and in the postintervention, 92.10%. After the intervention actions, there was a significant increase in correct answers, demonstrating an increase in the level of knowledge of the elderly about cardioprotective foods.
