Resumo:
Heart failure is one of the most prevalent cardiovascular diseases, which has become an important public health problem worldwide. In cases where the disease progresses, malnutrition can be identified from multifactorial causes. This study aims to assess the nutritional status of patients diagnosed with heart failure, admitted to a public hospital in BelémPará. Crosssectional, descriptive and analytical study, conducted from September 2019 to March 2020 with nonprobabilistic sampling for convenience, with adult and elderly patients diagnosed with heart failure, aged 20 years or over, who agreed to participate in the research signing the Informed Consent Form. Socioeconomic, demographic, clinical data, family history of diseases, gastrointestinal symptoms, anthropometric, biochemical parameters and nutritional risk identification were evaluated. The data were analyzed statistically using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Mann Whitney U test was used, adopting an alpha significance level of 5%. 31 patients with a mean of 48 ± 16.9 years were evaluated, 67.7% (n = 21) being male. From the body mass index, 43.4% (n = 10) of adults and 50% (n = 4) of the elderly, were eutrophic, as well as 51.5% (n = 16) in relation to arm circumference . 56.6% (n = 17) and 66.6% (n = 20) had increased cardiovascular risk from waist and neck circumferences, respectively. All were well nourished according to the subjective global assessment, 87.5% (n = 7) of the elderly at risk by the mini nutritional assessment, and 45.1% (n = 14) also at risk according to Nutritional Risk Screnning. Nutritional risk was identified even in eutrophic and centrally obese patients according to waist and neck circumference. Heart failure may be more prevalent in males and with less education and income. High blood pressure may have contributed to its development. Although the majority of the population is eutrophic, there is still a risk of malnutrition.
