In cases where the disease progresses, malnutrition can be identified from multifactorial causes. This study aims to assess the nutritional status of patients diagnosed with heart failure, admitted to a public hospital in Belém­Pará. Cross­sectional, descriptive and analytical study, conducted from September 2019 to March 2020 with non­probabilistic sampling for convenience, with adult and elderly patients diagnosed with heart failure, aged 20 years or over, who agreed to participate in the research signing the Informed Consent Form. Socioeconomic, demographic, clinical data, family history of diseases, gastrointestinal symptoms, anthropometric, biochemical parameters and nutritional risk identification were evaluated. The data were analyzed statistically using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Mann Whitney U test was used, adopting an alpha significance level of 5%. 31 patients with a mean of 48 ± 16.9 years were evaluated, 67.7% (n = 21) being male. From the body mass index, 43.4% (n = 10) of adults and 50% (n = 4) of the elderly, were eutrophic, as well as 51.5% (n = 16) in relation to arm circumference . 56.6% (n = 17) and 66.6% (n = 20) had increased cardiovascular risk from waist and neck circumferences, respectively. All were well nourished according to the subjective global assessment, 87.5% (n = 7) of the elderly at risk by the mini nutritional assessment, and 45.1% (n = 14) also at risk according to Nutritional Risk Screnning. Nutritional risk was identified even in eutrophic and centrally obese patients according to waist and neck circumference. Heart failure may be more prevalent in males and with less education and income. High blood pressure may have contributed to its development. Although the majority of the population is eutrophic, there is still a risk of malnutrition. A insuficiência cardíaca é uma das doenças cardiovasculares mais prevalentes, a qual tem se tornado um importante problema de saúde pública em todo o mundo. Nos casos em que há progressão da doença, a desnutrição pode ser identificada a partir de causas multifatoriais. O presente estudo tem como objetivo avaliar o estado nutricional de pacientes diagnosticados com insuficiência cardíaca, internados em um hospital público de Belém­Pará. Estudo transversal, descritivo e analítico, realizado no período de setembro de 2019 a março de 2020 com amostragem não probabilística por conveniência, com pacientes adultos e idosos diagnosticados com insuficiência cardíaca, com idade igual ou superior a 20 anos, que aceitaram em participar da pesquisa assinando o Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido. Foram avaliados dados socioeconômicos, demográficos, clínicos, histórico familiar de doenças, sintomas gastrointestinais, parâmetros antropométricos, bioquímicos e da identificação de risco nutricional. Os dados foram analisados estatisticamente por meio do software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Foi utilizado teste U de Mann Whitney, adotando­se nível de significância alfa de 5%. Foram avaliados 31 pacientes com média de 48 ± 16,9 anos, sendo 67,7% (n=21) do sexo masculino. A partir do índice de massa corporal, 43,4% (n=10) dos adultos e 50% (n=4) dos idosos, estavam eutróficos, assim como 51,5% (n=16) em relação à circunferência do braço. 56,6% (n= 17) e 66,6% (n= 20) apresentaram risco cardiovascular aumentado a partir das circunferências da cintura e pescoço, respectivamente. Todos estavam bem nutridos conforme a avaliação subjetiva global, 87,5% (n= 7) dos idosos em risco pela mini avaliação nutricional, e 45,1% (n=14) também com risco conforme a Nutritional Risk Screnning. Foi identificado risco nutricional mesmo em pacientes eutróficos e com obesidade central segundo a circunferência da cintura e pescoço. A insuficiência cardíaca pode estar mais prevalente em indivíduos do sexo masculino e com menor escolaridade e renda. A hipertensão arterial pode ter contribuído para o seu desenvolvimento.
