The present work aims to evaluate the correlation between food frequency and nutritional
status in people with elimination ostomy (colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy). This is a
transversal and descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, carried out with 77 stomized
patients (temporary and definitive) in the period from January to March 2020, in the
Specialized Reference Unit URE's. For data collection, sociodemographic information,
clinical aspects, anthropometric measurements and food frequency questionnaire were used.
As a result, it was observed a high frequency of consumption of processed/ultra processed
foods and a low intake of fiber, besides that there were significant statistical correlations
between food frequency and some anthropometric variables, featuring inappropriate eating
habits, which in the long term may contribute to the genesis of nontransmissible chronic
diseases that can harm the health of the person with ostomy, such as obesity, diabetes, among
others; as well as contribute to the risk of prolapse, peristomal hernia, retraction and necrosis
of the stoma. Therefore, it is necessary that the ostomy patient performs nutritional
monitoring periodically in order to provide information regarding a healthy diet, considering
the individuality of individuals and thus ensure their health, quality of life and reduce the
chances of unpleasant intestinal symptoms. |
