The present work aims to demonstrate the importance of monitoring in the teaching-learning relationship in view of the application of activities and plans guided by the cognitive valuation model with the aim of overcoming circumstantial, specific or intrinsic obstacles to the educational activity. Throughout the article it is shown that monitoring has its own functions, and must combat purely arbitrary knowledge, proposing knowledge and activities endowed with significant capacity, based on the student's prior knowledge to then intervene and consolidate, or expand this preexisting knowledge. The method that guided this work was action research through a qualitative approach. At the end and throughout the process of this research, optimistic results were obtained, as the methodology provided students with self-reflection, significant assimilation of new knowledge and appreciation of reality through the acquired knowledge. It is argued, in conclusion, that it is essential to offer students a solid teaching methodology, which should be thought based on the student, through him and for him. O artigo é resultado de pesquisa acerca da educação superior no contexto do programa de incentivo à docência (monitoria), decorrente da compreensão e intervenção por meio de atividades, técnicas e metodologias pensadas a partir da Teoria do Aprendizado Significativo de David Paul Ausubel e Joseph Donald Novak aplicada na turma de Direito das Relações de Consumo II do curso de Direito da Universidade Federal do Pará. O presente trabalho objetiva demonstrar a importância da monitoria na relação de ensino-aprendizagem diante da aplicação de atividades e planejamentos orientados pelo modelo de valoração cognitiva com intuito de transpor obstáculos circunstanciais, pontuais ou intrínsecos à atividade educativa. Ao longo do artigo mostra-se que a monitoria possui funções próprias, devendo combater o conhecimento puramente arbitrário, propondo conhecimentos e atividades dotadas de capacidade significativa, tomando por base o conhecimento prévio do aluno para então, intervir e consolidar, ou expandir esse conhecimento preexistente. O método que guiou este trabalho foi a pesquisa-ação por meio da abordagem qualitativa. Ao final e ao longo do processo desta pesquisa obtiveram-se resultados otimistas, pois a metodologia proporcionou a auto reflexão dos alunos, assimilação significativa dos novos conhecimentos e valoração da realidade por meio dos conhecimentos adquiridos.
