Initially we tried to establish the current scenario of the science education in elementary education based on information obtained from a literature search. Although this research was addressed issues related to the science education in perspective STS (Science, Technology and Society), as well as the stage of the formation of the Science Teachers especially the city of Abaetetuba. We used as methodology qualitative analysis method, the research subjects were six Science Teachers Terezinha de Jesus Ferreira Lima, School the instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire, the same being composed of five steps, which address issues regarding conceptions about: Science, Teacher Education and Science regarding operations in the area, as well as the STS approach and suggestions for improvements to such teaching. The results indicate that there are several types of problems faced by the group investigated, ranging from flaws in the training process to difficulties related to the use of methodology, reflecting the reality of science teaching in elementary school these days. The results were discussed based on discussions and arguments obtained from the literature. Este trabalho investigou os aspectos e necessidades do ensino de Ciências no ensino fundamental através da análise das concepções e dificuldades apresentadas por professores desta área, em especial os professores da Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental e Médio Terezinha de Jesus Ferreira Lima pertencente ao município de Abaetetuba-PA. Inicialmente, procurou-se estabelecer o atual cenário do ensino de Ciências no Ensino Fundamental baseando-se em informações obtidas por uma pesquisa bibliográfica. Ainda nesta pesquisa foram abordadas questões relacionadas ao Ensino de Ciências na perspectiva CTS (Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade), bem como o cenário da formação dos Professores de Ciências especialmente dos Professores do município de Abaetetuba. Utilizou-se como metodologia desta pesquisa, o método qualitativo, onde os sujeitos da pesquisa foram seis Professores de Ciências da Escola Terezinha de Jesus Ferreira Lima, o instrumento utilizado para coleta de dados foi um questionário, sendo o mesmo composto de cinco etapas, que abordam questões referentes a concepções sobre: Ciências, Formação de Professores de Ciências e atuação na referente área, assim como o enfoque CTS e sugestões de melhorias para tal ensino. Os resultados indicam que existem vários tipos de problemas enfrentados pelo grupo investigado, que vão desde as falhas no processo de formação até dificuldades relativas ao uso de metodologia, refletindo a realidade do ensino de Ciências no ensino fundamental nos dias de hoje.
