The civil construction industry plays a fundamental role in the socio-economic
development of Brazil; however, it faces significant challenges in its pursuit of
productivity and efficiency. In the face of this challenging landscape, lean construction,
originating from the lean production model widespread by Japanese automakers in the
20th century, emerges as a promising strategy to alleviate persistent issues in the
sector. Lean construction enables the reduction of waste, along with increased
productivity and final product quality. However, the adoption of this methodology is
hindered by various factors that complicate its implementation. Hence, the present
research aims to identify and analyze which of these factors act as the most prominent
barriers to the implementation of lean construction in the Brazilian context. Through an
exploratory literature review, analyzing recent and relevant works, a predominance of
barriers associated with the internal environment of companies was observed. The lack
of knowledge in lean construction, the absence of support from managers, resistance
to change, and failures in cooperation and communication among involved parties
were identified as the primary obstacles to the adoption of lean construction in the
country. These internal challenges stand out as essential elements to be understood
and overcome to facilitate the dissemination and application of lean construction in the
Brazilian construction scenario. |
