The main objective of this undergraduate thesis is to analyze the potential benefits of
implementing a 5S audit system in Clinical Engineering departments. Through a theoretical
and practical approach, we investigated the principles of the 5S program and its applicability
in Clinical Engineering, as well as analyzed case studies and real-world examples of
successful implementation in this context. Additionally, we proposed a 5S checklist form for
conducting surprise audits in hospitals where this philosophy had not yet been adopted, aiming
to assess adherence to program principles and analyze its implementation potential. The
results obtained revealed significant variations among the studied hospitals, emphasizing the
importance of considering specific factors of each institution in 5S implementation.
Ultimately, we anticipate that the insights gained from this study will contribute to fostering a
culture of continuous improvement in Clinical Engineering sectors. An environment that is
more organized and clean, as a result of adopting this philosophy, can have a positive impact
on patient safety and well-being, ultimately enhancing the healthcare experience.
