Discusses research as a means of education and as a means of knowledge construction in undergraduate education. The research appears as exploratory descriptive, using qualitative and quantitative methods for data interpretation. collection occurred in the first moment with academics who participated in the activity of IC in the period 2000-2011, the second time with teachers who guided IC projects not necessarily in the same period. The results showed it is possible to say that is true of the positive impact on the lives of IC professionals who participated in the research program at the university. The research made possible as a pedagogical practice encourages talent, creative and critical to the ability and above all innovation in the way of acting or operational activities related to the occupation. A investigação busca compreender o papel da Iniciação Científica - IC e sua contribuição para a formação do profissional bibliotecário formado na Universidade Federal do Amazonas - UFAM. Aborda a pesquisa como forma de educação e como modo de construção de conhecimento no ensino de graduação. A pesquisa configura-se como exploratória do tipo descritiva, utilizando métodos quali-quantitativos para a interpretação dos dados. A coleta de dados ocorreu, no primeiro momento com acadêmicos que participaram de atividade de IC no período de 2000 a 2011; no segundo momento com professores que orientaram projetos de IC não necessariamente no mesmo período. Os resultados demonstraram é possível afirmar que é verdadeiro o impacto positivo da IC na vida dos profissionais que participaram do programa de pesquisa na universidade.
