Most older people use, on average, one medication per day, and about one-third consume five or more simultaneously. These individuals make up about 50% of the medicines multi-users, possibly being the age group with the highest consumption of medicines in Society. Thus, the objective of this study was to identify what leads groups of older people to consume generic drugs (MG). To answer this question, we evaluated articles with a quantitative, cross-sectional, and unicentric approach in studies on the theme of aging and acceptance of generic drugs published in recent years. The article consulted were obtained from different scientific databases on the Internet. For the analysis of the study, 16 articles were selected, with an audience aged 60 years or older. In this research, it was possible to notice that socioeconomic factors such as education level, monthly income, and social class did not influence the prescription, adherence, and knowledge of DM by the elderly. However, the instruments that lead to the acceptance of MG by the elderly, presented in the assessed articles, were the large consumption of medication by the elderly, as well as information obtained through the media, the most affordable price, confidence in the effectiveness of MG, prescription by the physician and indication by pharmacy professionals. In this regard, this study contributed to demonstrate the need for the professional pharmacist within health institutions, whether public or private, to raise awareness about the consumption of DM, to propose strategies that can serve the elderly in the dispensation and promotion of the rational use of medicines, ensuring the elderly therapeutic quality and contributing to reducing the risks of self-medication. |
