This research focuses on the procedure of apprehending meaning in the interpretive
act, known as deverbalization. This concept integrates the Interpretive Theory of
Translation, whose application occurs in the context of conference interpretation. The
general objective of the investigation carried out was to analyze aspects related to
the performance of Libras Teachers-Interpreters who accompany deaf students at the
Frei Silvio Vagheggi State School, regarding the possible contributions that
deverbalization can present in the interpretation developed in this environment. For
this, we used the qualitative approach in the investigation with the participating
professionals in order to obtain the answers for the elaboration of this study. The data
obtained indicate that professionals participate in the deaf community and
understand the importance of deverbalization, however, we found that the
deverbalization procedure is more observed in consecutive interpretation, whose
modality is not performed in the environment in which the research took place.
Finally, we hope that this investigation can lead to new research approaches on the
subject.
