Considering the current tech scenario, in which information is compressed
and presented in a reduced physical space (as is the case with smartphone
screens), illustrations have become a key ingredient in digital products. On the
other hand, the thoughtless use of this visual resource in interfaces, instead of
adding value and making the product distinguish, can become an obstacle due to
cognitive overload. Unlike illustrations used in advertising and editorial campaigns,
illustration in digital products emphasizes purpose and functionality, being more
than purely decorative. An effective product illustration is done intentionally and
cannot be replaced by a random stock image. Thus, this project seeks to promote
the assertive use of illustrations in interfaces, using The Pilgrim application as an
object of study, to develop a proposal for an illustration system. For the execution,
the Design Thinking methodology was used, focused on usability and interface,
using tools such as similar analysis, questionnaire, briefing, semantic panel,
desirability test, and positioning matrix. The result led to scalable compositions for
different contexts according to the needs of the interface, without losing visual
consistency. The study at hand underscores the importance of systems when
developing illustrations. |
