Nomophobia, defined as the fear of being without access to a mobile phone, affects quality of life by causing anxiety, reduced productivity, and other negative impacts. Despite the existence of various apps for screen time control, many fail to engage users due to a lack of motivational elements, such as rewards and achievements. This project proposes the concept of an app that makes the user experience more engaging through character design, a playful and gamified theme, to promote a balanced and healthy smartphone usage, providing a more positive and effective experience.
The methodology followed the Double Diamond model from the UK Design Council, encompassing the stages of Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver. Tools such as competitor analysis, the "How might we...?" technique, CSD matrix, personas, and mood boards complemented the process.
The outcome of this project was a concept for an app that combines time management with a playful and friendly approach, using gamification and character design to engage users. Although user testing was not possible, the high-fidelity screens suggest potential for future implementations and validations, offering an innovative solution to improve people's relationship with their mobile devices. |
