Background: Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) have been the subject of health-related studies, mainly because of the lifestyle based on the Eight Natural Remedies (8NR): nutrition, exercise, water, sunlight, temperance, clean air, rest and trust. When compared to non-Adventists, they present good results. However, when compared to each other, sociodemographic and cultural elements influence the health-disease process. Objective: To analyze the lifestyle based on the use of 8NR by SDA residents in the city of Manaus-AM-Brazil and its relationship with the Social Determinants of Health (SDH). Methodology: Descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 86 participants who answered two questionnaires (8NR and SDH). Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. The assumed significance level was p<0.05. Results: The means related to the scores of the 8NR, and their domains were positive. However, differences were found between the following groups for vulnerabilities: men may be more vulnerable in terms of nutrition; and social and community networks around the individual's faith, age, and education level can contribute to the use of 8NR and various domains. Conclusion: The variables sex, time of baptism, departure from the faith (social and community networks), age and education of the individual interfered to some degree in the use of 8NR. The need to consider the SDH that can influence the adoption of healthier habits is highlighted, which calls for the construction of public policies that reduce socially produced inequities. |
