The condition of quick expansion and population growth of the city of Manaus, from the 60s, making the city a metropolis of approximately 2.2 million inhabitants, resulted in several consequences at economic, population and urban levels. The condition of a “dormitory” territory or in this case “dormitory” neighborhood starts from the lack of public spaces and adequate urban infrastructure, as well as the need of urban equipment and protected public living spaces. In this aspect, the neighborhood of Raiz enters the category of a dormitory neighborhood due to its conditions of formation and urban growth since its origin, thus being a neighborhood with complex problems and an urban environment in need of intervention for the activating and revealing of its public space both for its own community and in a city-wide urban context.
