Resumo:
With an emerging elderly population in Brazil, there are growing concerns related to their quality of life and emotional well-being. Bibliotherapy emerges as a therapeutic approach, using the reading of literary texts to promote the well-being of the elderly. Based on the guiding question “How does bibliotherapy influence the well-being of older people?”, this work seeks to explore the benefits of bibliotherapy for this population, focusing on the influence of reading in the mental and emotional health of older people. The general objective of this research is to understand how bibliotherapy influences the well-being of elderly people. The specific objectives are: identifying the concepts, objectives and components of bibliotherapy; point out the characteristics corresponding to elderly people and the Brazilian legislation that protects this population; verify how bibliotherapeutic activities are applied to elderly people. This is an exploratory, bibliographic and documentary research, which involves review and synthesis of existing literature on the topic. The methodology involved a search in databases and subsequently a critical analysis of the texts/materials recovered from October 2023 to March 2024. The work aims to present a literature review on bibliotherapy and its applicability to elderly people, highlighting its role as therapeutic activity. By offering older people the opportunity to engage in reading, this work could significantly contribute to future research in the area by providing a way to connect with the world around them and find solutions to their own problems through the stories and characters found in reading.
