This Undergraduate Thesis addresses the problem of religious intolerance faced by the Umbanda religion and its consequent invisibility in the contemporary urban landscape. Based on this analysis, an architectural project is proposed for an Umbanda Terreiro in Manaus, with the primary objective of legitimizing the presence of this religious expression in urban space. The proposal seeks to create a sacred space that meets the needs of the Umbandista community, promoting and valuing their cultural legacy, essential to Brazilian national identity.
The foundation of this work is constructed from bibliographic research related to the theme, interviews conducted with members of the Umbandista community, and technical visits to the intervention site, as well as other Terreiros in Manaus. Additionally, relevant project references are analyzed to theoretically support architectural choices. Based on this information, guidelines are developed for the project, complemented by technical schemes guiding the development of the Umbanda Terreiro proposal for Manaus.
