This article presents some reflections on the drought in the state of Amazonas that occurred in 2023
and 2024 and the worsening of the social vulnerability of the people living in the region. Social groups,
such as riverside dwellers and indigenous people, suffered various economic, social and
environmental impacts as a result of the drought that hits Amazonian municipalities. Therefore, it
became essential to identify government initiatives adopted by various bodies, which contributed to
tackling the impacts of drought on vulnerable populations. Therefore, during the drought there was an
urgent need to implement efficient public policies aimed at populations living on the banks of Amazon
rivers, in addition to discussing adaptation strategies to extreme events and climate change.
