Among the three categories of disposal used in the country, landfills are considered the most appropriate according to Brazilian environmental law. In this perspective, this research aimed to characterize the environmental scenario of the areas used for solid waste disposal in the municipalities of the state of Roraima – ADMRS, indicating the local situation, according to current legislation. For this purpose, the Waste Landfill Quality Index –WLQI (IQR im portuguese) – Ditches/Landfills, an adapted form of the Waste Landfill Quality Index, was used as an indicator of environmental quality IQR which is a methodological instrument created and used by the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo, the preparation of na annual inventory with information on the environmental and sanitary conditions of the final destination of household waste in the municipalities of São Paulo. This form was applied in fourteen of the fifteen municipalities of the State, leaving out of the study group only the municipality of São João da Baliza, because it does not have a place within its jurisdiction for waste distribution. Bibliographic references, on-site visits, photographs, remote sensing images and data obtained from the environmental agencies of each municipality through a standardized questionnaire were used as data source. This information was quantified by scoring criteria, classifying the ADMRS as inadequate (I) the areas that obtained the score from 0.0 to 6.0, controlled (C) from 6.1 to 8.0 and adequate (A) from 8.1 to 10. Thus, it was concluded that none of the State ADMRS reached the score equal to or greater than 8.1; zone that would classify the areas in Adequate conditions and in accordance with the National Solid Waste Policy. Under Controlled conditions, only the municipality of Normandy was fitted with IQR Valas/ Dumps equivalent to 6.7; because it has a small landfill built in the standards of ABNT/ NBR 15849 of 2010. And the other Municipalities work in inadequate conditions not meeting the current legislatures and configuring mere provision in the open-air. Uma das grandes problemáticas da atualidade é a disposição final dos resíduos sólidos urbanos, que tem gerado diversos problemas ambientais. Entre as três categorias de destinação utilizadas no país, os aterros sanitários são considerados os mais adequados segundo o direito ambiental brasileiro. Nessa perspectiva, a presente pesquisa objetivou caracterizar o cenário ambiental das áreas utilizadas para disposição de resíduos sólidos nos municípios do estado de Roraima - ADMRS, indicando a situação local, conforme a legislação vigente. Para isso utilizou-se como instrumento indicador da qualidade ambiental o Índice de Qualidade de Aterro de Resíduos - IQR - Valas/Lixões, formulário adaptado do Índice de Qualidade de Aterro de Resíduos-IQR que é um instrumento metodológico criado e utilizado pela Companhia Ambiental do Estado de São Paulo, para a elaboração de um inventário anual com informações sobre as condições ambientais e sanitárias dos locais de destinação final de resíduos domiciliares nos municípios paulistas. Este formulário foi aplicado em quatorze dos quinze municípios do Estado, ficando de fora do grupo de estudo somente o município de São João da Baliza, pois não dispõe de um local dentro de sua jurisdição para distribuição dos resíduos. Foi utilizado como fonte de dados referências bibliográficas, visita in loco, fotografias, imagens de sensoriamento remoto e dados obtidos junto aos órgãos ambientais de cada Município por meio de questionário padronizado. Essas informações foram quantificadas por critérios de pontuação, classificando as ADMRS como inadequadas (I) as áreas que obtiverem a pontuação de 0.0 até 6.0, controladas (C) de 6.1 até 8.0 e adequadas (A) de 8.1 até 10. Assim, fora concluído que nenhuma das ADMRS do Estado chegou à pontuação igual ou superior a 8.1; zona que classificaria as áreas em condições Adequadas e em conformidade com o que dispõe Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos. Em condições Controladas se enquadrou apenas o município de Normandia com IQR Valas/Lixões equivalente a 6,7; pois dispõe de um aterro sanitário de pequeno porte construído nos padrões da ABNT/NBR 15849 de 2010. E os demais Municípios funcionam em condições Inadequadas não atendendo as legislaturas vigentes e configurando mera disposição a céu aberto.
