The objective of this study is to investigate the final destination of solid urban waste in the city of Porto Nacional - TO. The research is a case study with qualitative and quantitative approaches on the disposal of urban solid waste and its disposal. The results verified, through different perceptions, show problems with the accumulated litter and its significant volume disposed in several points of the city, mainly in the streets and in the empty spaces. In pursuit of the general objective proposed, it was necessary to identify the habits of the population in the handling of Solid Residual Domiciliary (RSDs) in the city of Porto Nacional; select some census sectors for study; to delimit the main types of urban solid waste discarded unduly; and locate the points of greatest occurrence of undue disposal of urban solid waste; to relate the final disposition of these residues and their socio-environmental consequences. The methodology used is based on the case study of eight selected census tracts. To obtain the data, residents of the sectors and garbage collectors answered the questionnaires; as well as interviews with municipal managers. In the same intention, the direct observation in the sectors with the location of coordinates of the points with inadequate disposal of garbage, and the visit to the city dump was made. From the questionnaires, the field visit and the interviews, it was noticed that the solid waste generated is sent to the conventional collection, having as final destination the municipal dump. There was a high number of inadequate disposal of solid waste in the sectors with the greatest number of empty spaces and low infrastructure of roads; and that there is an open dump at the landfill site. The aim of this work was to know how to dispose of solid waste in the urban area of Porto Nacional, and thus contribute with useful information to the planning and environmental management actions of the city.
