Medical residency is a professional qualification strand, considered the gold standard for medical specialization, and is characterized by on-the-job training under the supervision of qualified professionals. However, this qualification policy needs to be evaluated, in particular, the impact of the implantation of new residence programs in priority regions, the answer to the questioning if there is actually a higher prevalence of professional fixation or not stimulated by this type of training and if there are factors that make it difficult. Since Tocantins is the last Federal Unit to open medical residency programs and even when a national level stimulus program for such openings is established, it is an ideal universe for the execution of such research. Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of fixation of graduates in the state of Tocantins, after the implantation of medical residences, from 2013 to 2017. Method: This is a quantitative survey with a cross-sectional design carried out with graduates of medical residency programs in the state of Tocantins from 2013 to 2017. The study was attended by 44 residents who were contacted via e-mail and WhatsApp. Results: The prevalence of fixation was 65.9% of physicians in the State of Tocantins, and among them, the majority of them work in the private and state network.
