Resumo:
This monograph aims to investigate the closing process of the Escola Municipal São Sebastião, located in the Ribeirão Grande II community. This district has a population of approximately 450 people and is located in the rural area of the municipality of Tocantinópolis-TO. Based on the provisions of Law 12.960/2014 (BRASIL, 2014) and considering that since 2015 this school is closed, the purpose of the study is to investigate and understand the main reasons that led the public authority to transfer the Escola Municipal São Sebastião from the village of Pedro Isaias to the village Chapadinha, in Tocantinópolis-TO, closing it later. This is a qualitative research, characterized as a case study. As a methodological proposal for data collection and generation, semi-structured interviews were conducted with community social actors, being: 06 (six) ex-teachers, 06 (six) ex-students of the school, 06 (six) parents of the students and the Secretary of Education of the municipality. We also collected documents in the school-field and from the data provided by the research collaborators they were treated using content analysis. The results showed that the teaching unit in the village of Pedro Isaias was officially closed due to lack of infrastructure and because it was built in an inappropriate place, besides not having documentation of the land. These reasons caused the transfer of the building to the village Chapadinha, since the Education Department of the municipality argued that it was necessary to change to offer a quality education with an appropriate place for students to study. Even with the transfer, on the contrary, the teaching offered to the children in the new school building did not please the students as much as the parents, because with the construction of the new building teaching began to be offered in a single classroom, supporting garden students I and II, and 1st year to 5th year in a single shift (morning), thus causing a precariousness of teaching in the community. As a result, the school in Chapadinha was closed because of the way it worked, because the parents do not see development of their children, they decide to transfer them to study in schools located urban area, culminating in the closure of this institution.
