This article sought to analyze the duties and skills of the psychologist, in the branch of
childhood and youth in Palmas, State of Tocantins, in view of the legislation and regulations
for this professional within the scope of their practice. Understand the professional practice of
the psychologist, based on public documents, such as: reports, opinions, psychodiagnostics,
psychological tests, laws, ordinances, resolutions, and reports, made available in digital
processes, in the branch of childhood and youth of Palmas/TO, in 2018, specifically in custody
proceedings. Their results showed that only 37% of the analyzed cases use all the sources
provided for in the current rules. This figure indicates that approximately 1/3 of the cases are
covered by the current regulations of psychology, and the other evaluations may be challenged
in legal challenges, promoted by lawyers of Members of the Public Ministry. Finally, it is
believed that psychology can contribute with greater quality, in the legal context, since his
expert activity underlies the decisions of the Magistrate, and thereby modifies the social
situation.
