This paper addresses the importance of digital information and communication technology (TDIC), having as main focus the applications available for smartphones for teaching mathematics of elementary school. The choice of this theme arose from the need to explore a digital tool that is present in society in general, seeking to use it for teaching and learning. The research takes a qualitative approach whose objective is to investigate the importance of using digital technologies in the teaching of mathematics and to present activities with the use of applications available on smartphones in elementary school. It was based on the following theorists: Tigre (2006); Kenski (2003, 2007); Souza (2013); Pauly and Vivian (2012); Dellagnelo (2020) and among others. In view of the pandemic scenario, a questionnaire with seven questions was applied to four elementary and high school teachers from the public basic education network of the State of Tocantins, addressing the return of classes remotely and the difficulties faced in the use of digital technology from information and communication (TDIC). It was found that teachers had to learn quickly to use the tool of digital technologies and that not all students have good access to the internet and neither good devices to follow classes. As for the activities suggested with the use of applications available for smartphones, such as: master of mathematics, mathematical formulas and high school equation, in elementary school, it is expected to encourage and explore the smartphone for use in the classroom.
