Resumo:
This research is dedicated to understanding the historical and cultural heritage on the edge of Tocantinópolis, a city located on the banks of the Tocantins River that names the state, in the region known as Bico do Papagaio. The work aimed to analyze how the waterfront space is used in the daily life of the community and the visitors, and how the traditional popular festivals - such as the June festival and the Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes Procession - influence the identity formation of Tocantins society. That said, the methodology used was ethnography, from the field trip, and participant observation together with the aid of audiovisuals equipment for the realization of interviews, images, and videos. Oral history and local bibliography were also used, which protect and reveal the events from the old Boa Vista do Padre João to the current Tocantinópolis, favoring the collective memory and the tocantinopolina identity. As a result, the waterfront is considered a space for the community to circulate in everyday life, whether for work or a walk; the know-how of boatmen, fishermen, washing machines and the social practices of the festivities held on the waterfront, which is a mediator between the river and the city, full of memories, sociability and identity formation.
