This work had the objective of investigating the pedagogical practice, verifying the school reality and selecting data that revealed significant information regarding the understanding of the discipline, in the physical and social context. A questionnaire was applied to the teacher and 24 students of the 5th grade of the Elementary School of the Cristo Rei Parish School of Tocantinópolis - TO. The results demonstrate that the teacher has difficulty with the discipline itself and not with the lack of time for planning, insufficient training during the training and, therefore, a significant difficulty in defining what is important to work in what is related to content. The students enjoy the discipline, some because of the teacher, and can remember the contents covered, can not differentiate the discipline of Geography from others and consider it important for several reasons. Compreender a prática pedagógica e as relações presente no contexto escolar exige uma reflexão dos processos de ensino e aprendizagem dos alunos que requerem um aprofundamento de várias questões que dizem respeito ao cotidiano e ao ambiente. Este trabalho teve o objetivo de investigar a prática pedagógica, verificando a realidade escolar e selecionando dados que revelassem informações significativas quanto à compreensão da disciplina, no contexto físico e social. Foi aplicado questionário para o professor e 24 alunos do 5o ano do Ensino Fundamental da Escola Paroquial Cristo Rei de Tocantinópolis – TO. Os resultados demonstram que o professor tem dificuldade com a disciplina em si e não com a falta de tempo para o planejamento, capacitação insuficiente durante a formação e, portanto, uma significativa dificuldade em definir o que é importante trabalhar no que se relaciona a conteúdo.
