The same aims to make an analysis of how these contents are worked and what are the main difficulties faced by teachers in the geology teaching, besides proposing methodologies that they try to improve the teaching and the learning of the theme. This work becomes relevant, because it seeks to discuss how much knowledge about Geology can be harnessed daily and at the same time also bring a discussion about the deficiency of geology learning in basic education. It is a work with exploratory research of qualitative nature, for this, two types of research were developed, the theoretical research through authors who discuss the main theme of this work, as well as national and state curricular references that base the Geography teaching in which the Geology teaching is inserted, and school/field surveys to data collect. The result shows that greater concern is needed and the use of new methodologies for better learning in geology teaching in schools. O presente trabalho traz como tema a Geologia na educação básica, abordando sobre o ensino de Geologia no 1° ano do ensino médio no Colégio Estadual Raimundo Neiva de Carvalho, na cidade de Palmeiras do Tocantins – TO, trazendo reflexões sobre a importância do aprendizado de Geologia, sobre os conteúdos relacionados a este tema que são abordados no 1° ano do ensino médio, além das metodologias adotadas pelos professores do colégio para o ensino dos referidos conteúdos. O mesmo tem como objetivo fazer uma análise de como esses conteúdos são trabalhados e quais as principais dificuldades enfrentadas pelos professores no ensino de Geologia, além de também propor metodologias que busquem melhorar o ensino e aprendizagem desse tema. Este trabalho se torna relevante, pois busca discutir o quanto o conhecimento sobre Geologia pode ser aproveitado no dia a dia e ao mesmo tempo também busca trazer uma discussão sobre a deficiência do aprendizado de Geologia na educação básica. Trata-se de um trabalho com pesquisa exploratória de natureza qualitativa, para isto foram desenvolvidas dois tipos de pesquisa, a pesquisa teórica através de autores que discutem o tema cerne deste trabalho, bem como referenciais curriculares nacionais e estaduais que fundamentam o ensino de Geografia na qual o ensino de Geologia está inserido, e pesquisas na escola/campo para fazer coleta de dados.
