The present dissertation analyzed the Regional Development and the socioeconomic
transformations in the immediate region of Araguatins - TO. In this sense, the research started
from the classical theories of regional development to understand its precepts and terminologies
and how the process of local, regional and economic development occurs. Understanding the
socioeconomic dynamics of this region is fundamental for the elaboration of public policies and
for overcoming regional inequalities. The objective of this work was to verify the
socioeconomic transformations that occurred in the immediate region of Araguatins - TO
between 2010 and 2020. To achieve the general objective of the study, the following indicators
were used: locational indicator, coefficient of geographical association and employment
multiplier, in addition to characterizing the immediate region of Araguatins and presenting the
logistics and port enterprise of the Port of Praia Norte to determine the logistics dynamics and
development patterns of the municipalities that make up the immediate region. Other data was
used such as socioeconomic indicators. The main sources of data were: RAIS, IBGE, INEP,
CNT, DNIT, IPEADATA. The research has a qualitative and quantitative approach, and its
classification is exploratory and descriptive in general. The results show that the Port of Praia
Norte has a strategic geographic location, which can favor port activity and its economic
development. The regional dynamic leans towards the public sector, commerce and services,
which have the greatest impact on job generation, the primary sector between the years 2010 to
2020 had a significant increase. In this scenario, the cities that came to have strong QL were:
Araguatins, Sampaio and São Miguel do Tocantins, with a total percentage of 23.08% for the
region. On the other hand, the secondary sector, even with the construction of the Port of Praia
Norte, did not present a significant result for the civil construction sector in some of the
investigated cities. The secondary sector that presented the most heterogeneous was the
industrial services of public utility sector. On the other hand, the tertiary sector is the sector
that employs the most people in the immediate region of Araguatins. Approximately 76.92%
of such municipalities presented strong QL, evidencing that these municipalities have
dependence on the public sector, followed by the commerce and services sector. Regarding the
coefficient of geographical association, during the period from 2010 to 2020, the region
presented significant inequalities among the economic sectors examined. The variations of the
employment multiplier emphasize five municipalities (Araguatins, Augustinópolis, Buriti do
Tocantins, Itaguatins and Sampaio) that presented favorable results in the generation of jobs
via basic activity, with Buriti do Tocantins standing out, which had the most favorable index.
Overall, the average index remained stable, showing an increase in the indicator from 2010 to
2020. The study suggests that the diversification of economic sectors is necessary for a better
performance of employment, highlighting the dependence on the public sector in the generation
of jobs in the region. Therefore, the socioeconomic transformations perceived in the region, is
around the trade, service, and public administration sectors. This highlights the need for
diversification among the sectors for greater stability and development of the region. |
