Resumo:
The research aimed to understand how it is possible to use maps that present socioeconomic indicators in the teaching of Geography, which content is available in the 8th year of basic education. The National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) describes the importance of studying indicators, as in specific competence 4 of Geography teaching. Being included in the skill (EF08GE18) highlighting the use of cartographic representation for data analysis. Furthermore, it addressed the indexes of the Municipal Human Development Index (IDHM) of Tocantins with a focus on the municipality of Araguaína - TO, presenting the variables of health, education and income and how these aspects influence the social and economic development of the global, state and municipal. The analysis of these indicators was through SIGWEB such as Altas Brasil, Fundação João Pinheiro (FJP), United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The methodology was descriptive, adding the importance of cartography to the study of these socioeconomic indicators within the teaching of geography to elementary school students. The results included analysis of maps with indicators, education, income and longevity in Tocantins, with emphasis on Araguaína-TO, referring to the IDHM.
