The present monograph, titled "Penitentiary System, Violence, and State Responsibility: An Analysis with Emphasis on the State of Tocantins," aims to deepen the understanding of the Penitentiary System, particularly concerning the reintegration proposal outlined in the Penitentiary Execution Law (LEP), and to analyze how the State assumes responsibilities in this context. The primary focus lies on a significant challenge that permeates this system: violence. Additionally, the research highlights historical considerations shaping the entire process, providing an in-depth perspective on the specific scenario in Tocantins. The choice of this theme is grounded in identifying a relevant gap in the Penitentiary System, especially regarding public policies and governmental support. This gap becomes evident in the pursuit of
knowledge and understanding of the configuration of this complex space. The adopted methodological approach involves bibliographic research, encompassing books, articles, journals, and contemporary sources, as well as a documentary analysis of laws, codes, ordinances, and journalistic materials available on reliable websites. Bibliographic sources are properly referenced and highlighted in notes throughout the text, aiming for transparency and facilitating the reader's comprehension of the connections and results obtained. The conclusions drawn from this research point to the intellectual outcomes and ideas developed during the study. The broad perspective adopted allows for a critical analysis of reality, revealing a delicate and complex situation concerning the Penitentiary System. It underscores the need for more effective approaches and policies to address the challenges faced by this crucial system for society.
